Huaso
Photographer: Andrew White
Location: Chile

In the U.S. they're cowboys, in Argentina they're gauchos, and in Chile, they're huasos. Andrew spent a day with a well-respected elder in a rural part of Chile, documenthis his world and the traditions of the sport. He didn't speak English, and Andrew doesn't speak Spanish, but they found a rhythm working side by side, communicating through gestures and patience. He showed Andrew the routines, the gear, the horses, and the pride that comes with carrying on this way of life. It was a reminder of how the camera can cut through language and open doors to people and places that would otherwise be out of reach.
