Mahomes Robb Report Magazine x Photographer Andrew White
Photographer: Andrew White
Location: Kansas City
Shoot Days: 15 Minutes
Project: Robb Report Magazine
This is Andrew White’s third time being invited to photograph Patrick Mahomes, and for a huge Chiefs fan like Andrew, it’s a little bit of a dream. This round was for Robb Report, and the creative direction came in clear: no smiling, just natural and moody.
With that brief in hand, Andrew landed on a clear direction as he prepped for the shoot. “I wanted to shoot Patrick in a direct, intimate, Hollywood style,” Andrew said, “the kind where you can see the bones of a larger set, the stands and the muslins, instead of hiding them.”
With only fifteen minutes on the clock with Mahomes, the set had to be as efficient as it was beautiful. Andrew built a multi angle set next to a giant bay door, so the soft directional light flooding in would carry across several angles without needing a reset between them.
The wardrobe plan had Mahomes in a bright red leather jacket, which Andrew thought would look great against the black and white backdrops he’d built, so when Mahomes walked in wearing black and white, Andrew’s heart sank a little. A few test frames in, it was clear the simpler palette worked better and put all the attention on Mahomes himself.
Andrew shot for fourteen and a half minutes, and then he let the Chiefs fan in him take over, and told him to go get another ring this year!
